Once Upon a Summer

Fairy tale (noun): a children’s story about magical and imaginary beings and lands

Once upon a time there was a little girl called Summer, who accidentally turned herself invisible.

“Oops sorry mummy, that wasn’t supposed to happen, but I’ll tell you what I’ll do; I’ll sprinkle my name in all the things you love, so that you can see me in other ways”

So that’s just what she did.

She put her name into all the books, and her mummy saw it in every tale that she read.

She put her laughter into the sunshine and her mummy smiled on each and every sunny day.

She put her voice into all of the best songs and her mummy danced around the kitchen*.

She put her heart into all of her mummy’s friendships, because friendships can be seasonal, but everyone loves summer.

Summer’s mummy enjoyed this so much, that she invited others to look for her too. Although she still missed Summer terribly, in time she came to see, that she’d never really left at all.

* P.S: The mum dancing in the kitchen is not due to the stereotype, it’s because we have a fairly large kitchen and so it’s where Summer and I did all our best dancing.

Wow, this is an incredibly beautiful post, Anj. It reads like a poem, and isn’t that just what Summer is? A beautiful, immortal poem in the story of your life.
She ‘sprinkled her name’ in all the things you love… this is magical, wonderful.
I love the gentleness, the softness of this post.
And I love how you love Summer – with all the tenderness that only a Mum can have for her child.

Truly beautiful story, but not imaginary in any way.
I know she’ll be with you today and every day, celebrating her life with you and celebrating you as the wonderful mum you are.

Awww this is just beautiful. It actually made me tear up. I felt close to Summer in a way when reading it. It seemed she was talking and thinking of her mum so fondly. What a lovely way to mark and remember this day. 💗
