Memories

f-RUN-draising!

Fundraising (noun): The seeking of financial support for a charity or cause

I’ve written a couple of blogs about running, both here and here. The last one, was about the London Summer run, which James and I completed in September last year. Given that I’m not particularly fast and 10km, isn’t considered a huge ordeal, we didn’t fundraise for the cause.

This year however, we have been incredibly touched by our close friend, Matthew, asking us if he could run The Great North Run in memory of our daughter (and his goddaughter) Summer, this coming September. It is a whopping half marathon, 13.1 miles (a distance definitely beyond my current running ability!) and Matt’s doing it, in order to fundraise for the baby loss charity Tommy’s.

As I’m sure you know, Tommy’s do incredible work – supporting families through loss and difficulties, funding new trials and research, lobbying government for better maternal care and raising much needed awareness. They’re a charity I’ve come to advocate for passionately and it blows my mind that a few pre-loss years ago, I barely knew about them. I actually used to work in the building RIGHT NEXT DOOR to their London headquarters. I baked cakes for bake sales in order to fundraise for them, without truly appreciating how precious all Tommy’s work really was. Fast forward a few years and I’m a recipient of their services and a beneficiary of their research (and I’m always writing to my MP, with respect to baby loss, with their information and encouragement!).

So this blog is my attempt to highlight and lend support to Matt’s amazing f-RUN-draising (that’s about as pun-ny as I get. Here all day) initiative, in aid of Tommy’s.

All we have ever wanted is for some good things to have come about, from Summer having been here, however short her little life. This is still true, as the two year anniversary of her due date approaches next week. So if Summer or this blog has ever touched or helped you in some way, I would gently nudge you to ‘pay it forwards’ to the charity. If you would therefore like to make a small donation in support of Tommy’s / Matt and in Summer’s memory, we would absolutely love that. You can do so via the fundraising link here (Matt’s family have themselves experienced baby loss, which he writes about so eloquently on his fundraising page, so again, I’d encourage you to give it a read).

Every donation counts and is greatly appreciated. So here are my top 5 reasons to donate:

1) You want to support the incredible work that Tommy’s do
2) You want to support Matt – a person who is pushing himself physically, so that he can support his friends, in remembering their daughter
3) You remember Summer
4) If the Mumoirs blog has ever helped you in any way
5) Today you feel like completing a random act of kindness

Many Thanks,
Anjulie, James, Matt & Summer xx
